iPhone finally comes to 3

If you had asked me which Australian carrier totally missed the iPhone bandwagon, it was Hutchinson’s 3 brand. They were one of the earlier players in high-speed mobile data, and I would have thought that the iPhone was right up their alley as the killer app to push mobile broadband into the consumer space.

So imagine my disappointment as a loyal 3 subscriber when the iPhone 3G originally hit Australian shores and only with the big players. I’ve been impressed with my Nokia 6110 Navigator, but my time with a 2nd-gen iPod touch has impressed me sufficiently to make me want to move into the big leagues.

And finally it’s time. Today, 3 has announced that they will be selling the iPhone 3G S. I’m due for contract renewal, so this will save me from churning away, and allow me to keep my on-net minutes. Hopefully the plans will be competitive.

GOLD: Episode 2 – To find a king

As the World Championship looms ever closer, Richard struggles to bring his disjointed team together, while Jon and Jackson come to terms with their exclusion from the games. Meanwhile the British team learn of the new American line-up, which forces them to re-think their strategy, and Cissy confronts Jon about his attitude toward her and his injury.

This is a great series, and I think it’s important to support media aimed at the gaming community, so please visit the website and watch the show. It’s available on the web, as well as by podcast [iTunes]. GOLD is independently produced, so if you can spare a little money, consider clicking on their donate button.

Phenomenon 2009

One of the main reasons I haven’t put out many updates in the last week or so was due to being in Canberra for Phenomenon. Overall, I had a good time. As usual, the con was held at Daramalan College, which was close to the amenities of Dickson shops and all the takeaway Asian you can stomach, and the classrooms with ceiling heaters that made some sessions seem as though they were set in ovens.

Avast! Monkeys ahead!

I know retro gaming is fashionable these days, but I think it’s more than nostalgia that keeps us looking back fondly at the games of our youth. In that spirit, Lucas Arts is bringing Monkey Island to the Xbox 360:

Needless to say, I’m excited about this. I think I’ve even forgotten enough that rediscovering Monkey Island will still be a fun experience! My only concern is whether the controls will be good, but that’s just a minor quibble.

E3 announcements looking good this year

I know that people probably say that every year, but I’m excited. Between Monkey Island, MGS5, Dragon Age and others, I ‘m cautiously optimistic about what’s coming.

I can’t compete with the regular gaming sites, and I’m far too busy to even aggregate everything interesting into one place, so you’ll just have to go check out the usual suspects.

In the meantime, checkout these screens from The Beatles: Rock Band
