Easy spaghetti and meatballs

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Jamie Oliver. Not only does he have great taste in food, he’s passionate about making good food accessible to plebs like you and me.

I’ve recently come across his Ministry of Food series of free videos, where he shows you how to prepare a great dish in almost no time. Watching his “Spaghetti meatballs” video on the train home this afternoon, I was inspired to cook it up right away. Fortunately, our only other option was leftovers from the mixed grill on Monday night, so Flip was more than amenable.

Of course, I had to put my own spin on things, and they turned out awesome:

Another reflection on FMA

A while ago, I wrote about the Fullmetal Alchemist anime series. I mentioned that I found it much more fulfilling than traditional anime fare because it touched on social issues, and presented very human characters in a variety of situations that allowed them to grow.

Lately, I’ve been reading the series over at OneManga. It moves slower than the anime, which is to be expected since the anime was a closed story arc, while the manga is open-ended, but it’s still exciting and touching to read.

I just came across one scene that is well crafted, both in terms of its position in the local narrative, as well as the art. It highlights both the limitation of the Elrics’ Alchemy, and the tragedy that they must feel every day, which drives them to find a way to break the laws of nature.

Maybe I’m just a softie, but I can’t help but be moved by such a powerful scene. I only wish I could write as well as this.

My goodness, does this look like a whole barrel of awesome:

I can’t believe I haven’t heard of Chocolate until now. I must get a copy.

Storm photos

A casual glance through my photo collection will indicate I have this thing for taking photos of the sky. The weather fascinates me like few things because it is so beyond our control, and yet impacts so much of what we do.

Now that I have a good camera, I want to start taking more dynamic shots – especially of storms. While there are plenty of storm chasing photos out there, I’ve only been able to find one tutorial on the photos. I figured you might also find it interesting.

Lightning Photography – Photo Tips.

Guess I’ll have to find a good tripod.

What’s coming to the movies this year?

I was just thinking to myself I should go out and figure out what movies are coming our way this year so I can decide what I want to see. The StumbleUpon brought me the answer from the Film School Rejects.

The list contains the few I did know were coming (Wolverine, Star Trek, Watchmen), and also some that I had no idea about (can anybody say how awesome that totally un-PC Bitch Slap looks?).

It looks like we’re up for Harry Potter #6 (which wasn’t too bad as far as the books go), a new Terminator, and some new treatments on horror classics. Sounds great (even if it all turns out to be mostly crap.

Now to find out when Bitch Slap will be showing in Australia…
